For the record: We all knew the legendary Club Med in Val Claret , which became Belambra in the winter of 2021/22. There was also , between 1991 and 2004, Les Brevières located in Tignes le Lac, a former Aquarius which became Club Med in 1991. Some of my readers know these two villages well or very well, which will soon have their own pages on the site.
But let's go back in time a little if you will, because Tignes had another Club village on its estate.
Located near the Tignes dam, in the Boisses sector at an altitude of 1,800 metres , the Club Méditerranée opened its second snow village in France in the winter of 1958/59, somewhat hastily.
The "La Grande-Motte" hotel was rented by the Club . It appeared in the first Tridents under the name Super Tignes.
The village did not really open until 1961, the year in which the resort's facilities were a little more developed than in 1959.
Initially consisting of a chalet hotel, the club developed and expanded somewhat over the years. In 1970, the village consisted of 5 buildings. 4 housed the rooms , the last being the nerve center of the village with offices, the bar, the restaurant and entertainment.
The village has a mountain restaurant in Super Tignes (Alt: 2100 meters)
Village Chiefs
Marcel CONTAL opened the village in the winter of 1958/59.
The BASSET,
HERON , BATARD , FELLAT, among others, succeeded one another in running the village. Patrick CHOTARD closed Les Boisses in the spring of 1977.
Some of them were not stingy with exceptional gags like Jean Pierre BATARD who during the 1972/73 season managed to place 25 per room all the GMs who arrived in the early morning in the Alpine hunters' barracks located not far from the club by making them believe that there was a virus in the village. Unimaginable today, just think.
Today
The village of Val Claret closed in 2021 and is now managed by Belambra .
The village of Brévières became an MMV
Club Med is opening a new resort in the Val Claret area for winter 2022/23.
